Hybrid - Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week.


This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week


About the Role:


As part of the Cloud Center of Excellence team, the Senior Cloud Architect will have the opportunity to shape the architecture and design of solutions across a spectrum of technologies supporting the move to cloud native modernization from legacy platforms as part of projects and special initiatives. GM’s preferred public cloud provider is Microsoft Azure.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading strategic goals for the Cloud Center of Excellence. Working closely with Microsoft on roadmap capabilities.
  • Responsible for synthesizing functional & nonfunctional requirements, security requirements, data classifications, evaluate implementation feasibility and able to ask relevant questions to clarify needs while designing applicable cloud architecture solutions.
  • Define architecture and obtain necessary approvals through delivery phases leveraging established IT standards and approved cloud technology stack.
  • Design a Platform model that allows GM App Teams to innovate independently without compromising on core governance concerns (reliability, cost, security, etc)
  • Develop catalog of reference Azure architecture patterns to be used across the GM application landscape.
  • Utilizing a strong knowledge of application development, able to design new cloud applications and clearly communicate to developers. Able to use knowledge of microservice and cloud native designs to specify modernizations of applications for development.
  • Consult with application teams to direct the usage of Azure technology areas.
  • A good understanding of all aspects of cloud security, able to work with the security team to ensure all solutions meet industry leading levels of security compliance.
  • Be an evangelist for modern cloud architecture patterns within GM. Advising and leading GM application architects enabling them to migrate their applications to Azure.

Additional Job Description


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT related discipline
  • Microsoft Azure Architecture qualifications required
  • 8 years experience developing/deploying IT systems in a professional/corporate environment
  • 5 years experience leading architecture for project teams and project implementation in specific technology space such as Java, .NET, etc.
  • Experience developing frameworks/portals used by other teams/consumers
  • Experience of developing ARM or Bicep
  • Experience with Containers and Kubernetes
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices
  • Knowledge of Programming patterns.
  • Knowledge of Database Design/ Querying
  • Experience creating design documentation and communicating using diagrams such as Flow Charts, Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, Swim lanes, PowerPoint Presentations, animations, etc

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in IT related discipline
  • 15 years experience developing/deploying IT systems in a professional/corporate environment
  • 10 years experience leading architecture for project teams and project implementation in specific technology space such as Java, .NET, etc.
  • Experience in architecting for security and identity
  • Experience with at least one Messaging Tool (such as IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ, Kafka, etc)
  • Experience with OSI, TCP/IP networking and routing, Public key Cryptography and its applications, Data Structures, XML, JSON, Multithreading , User Interface Design, Messaging Protocols and Tools and Products , NO SQL, Development of REST API
